Chirnside Circular is a pleasant circular walk of around 3-4 miles between Chirnside and Chirnsidebridge. Allow around 2 hours to complete the series.
The route follows well-established footpaths, including part of the David Hume Walk, and features a variety of natural habitat: woodland, riverside, arable field margins and even a section of disused railway line. Keep your eyes open to spot a wide range of local wildlife as you make your way around. There is a short section where you will need to follow the footpath alongside the main road around Chirnside and care should be taken when crossing the A6105 at the David Hume Bridge near Chirnside Mill. Some sections of the route may be muddy after rainfall and there are some slight variations in elevation along the way - nothing too strenuous though! There are no livestock fields to cross and the route is particularly suitable for geohounds.
Whilst the series is numbered it's possible to start from a number of locations, including the villages of Chirnside and Chirnsidebridge. The caches were placed in a clockwise direction, but it should also be straightforward to complete the series in an anti-clockwise direction.
Each of the caches is a small green-lidded plastic box containing just a logbook. They're bigger than a micro, but aren't large enough for trackables. Don't forget to BYOP!
#1: The Ninewells Path
It's recommended to start the series from the Waypoint at the start of The Ninewells Path in Chirnside. Parking is available in various parts of the village. Do not attempt to get to GZ through the grounds of North Lodge, which is a private road.
