Geocache Description:

Frankish Tower of Vravrona

A Frankish tower near Vravrona in Attica region.

The tower was built by the Franks in the period when the Burgundian family of De LaRoche were the rulers of the Duchy of Athens, i.e. sometime in the 13th century.

It is in better condition than other similar towers in the area. This one has 3 floors and its crenellation is almost intact.

The tower was part of a network of similar towers which secured the timely warning and the defense in cases of pirate raids. Moreover, the tower must have served as a surveying point for the fields in the area and as a house of a local lord.

To approach the GZ, go to the given Waypoint, then, if you have a suitable off-road vehicle, you can directly continue till close to the Tower, otherwise conveniently park your vehicle and reach the GZ, on foot.

The cache is a small plastic cylindrical box, containing only the logbook. Therefore carry with you your own pen. After logging, please return the cache exactly to the same place where you found it. Thanks.
