Kibbutz Parod is located near Safed and belongs to Merom Hagalil Regional Council. The founders of the settlement were Holocaust survivors from Hungary. They were members of the Dror Youth movement. On May 1949, they settled on the land near the Aarab village of Al-FARADIYA, which preserved the name of ancient Perod and its inhabitants fled in February of that year. Over the years, groups of North Africa, Uruguay, and Argentina joined the Kibbutz. The Kibbutz, originally called Gardush, after the founder of the Dror movement, then changed its name to Parod, after the name of the ancient Jewish settlement of Parod that existed during the Talmod period. The meaning indicates its geographic location, separating the upper and lower Galilee, from the eastern and western Galilee.
The Kibbutz is home to about three hundreds residents, who are involved in a wide variety of fields, especially in agriculture, tourism, and liberal professions. They produce the OLIVE OIL brand "Saba Habib", which is a famous super-premium oil. The kibbutz was privatized a few years ago, but the community life in Parod continues to be cooperative.
