(Herkunft : neuf-brisach.fr)

The fortifications
"The fortified town of Neuf-Brisach was built ex-nihilo on the orders of King Louis XIV of France from 1698. The objective is to strengthen the defences of the Rhine after the loss of Brisach following the Treaty of Ryswyck in 1697, a stronghold that had been attached to our kingdom when the Treaty of Westphalia was signed in 1648." (source : neuf-brisach.fr)
All the fortifications now belong to the city and the entire territory is covered by protection as Historic Monuments. Since 2008, the site has been inscribed on the World Heritage List as part of the Vauban Fortifications. Guided tours are regularly organized to discover the site. The 1/600th relief plan, built in 1706, restored in 1782 and 1936, is kept at the Musée des Plans Reliefs in Paris. A copy can be seen at the Vauban Museum in Neuf-Brisach.
