This is a geocache located in the village of Cookley in Worcestershire, 2.5 miles north of Kidderminster. A really interesting place with an array of businesses and an interesting history.
As you approach the cache location, you will notice a castellated building which is one of a pair of gatehouses which once provided the entrance to the Lea Castle estate. The boundary wall still exists in places (along the A449, Wolverley Road and nearby Lea Lane). Unfortunately, the gatehouses, part of the wall and the name of the main road running through Cookley (Castle Road!) is the only remaining evidence of the imposing house which was once situated here. According to the Lost Heritage website, the house was a large, brick-built castellated mansion built in a neo-gothic style in 1762. The house unfortunately fell into disrepair and was demolished in the 1940's.
The cache is easily located and accessible. You are looking for a magnetic container. BYOP.
(After searching for geocaches for a little while, I thought it was time to place my own. Therefore, I am happy to accept any pointers for improvements from you more experienced geocachers!)
