In the United Kingdom, a village hall is usually a building which contains usually at least one large room, kitchen and toilets, and is usually owned by a local government council or independent trustees, and run for the benefit of the local community. It is estimated that there are over 10,000 such village halls.
Village Halls and Community Centres are an incredible asset which we must celebrate offering so much more than just being a building for the odd village party, parish council meeting or brownies. They can offer childcare facilities, enabling parents to go to work or get on with jobs at home. They can act as business hubs where home workers can come and work together or others can use for meetings, training or conferences. They reduce the potential for isolation within communities through offering a meeting place – including luncheon clubs and other social events. More and more health services are provided at village halls in rural areas, reducing the need to travel and bringing services to where they are most needed.
Billingshurst Centre, formerly Billingshurst Village Hall, is located in Roman Way, Billingshurst RH14 9QW. Billingshurst is a village and civil parish in the Horsham District of West Sussex, England. The village lies 8 miles (13 km) south-west of Horsham, and 5.6 miles (9 km) north-east of Pulborough.
