The Zaantjesteeg counted four workshops of carpenters in earlier times. The tree trunks of mahogany wood, originating from Colombia and the Dominican Republic, was transported to the Rif by raft and then rolled up in rolls to be processed in one of these furniture maker workshops.
The private school of A. T. Brusse, author of the book Curacao and his inhabitants from 1882, was also in the Zaantjesteeg.
