Bamboo Chopsticks

1000-1130

Friday 1st March 2019

Hi guys! It’s the first day of the CITO souvenir so let’s get to it !

We’ve been invited by the Friends of Hatch Grange to assist with bamboo coppicing in the park.

Please indicate your ‘will attend’ and arrive at least five minutes early for registration on our own log sheet. We will then be given instructions and a Health & Safety brief by Rick and Steve from the Friends of Hatch Grange before the exercise begins.

I’m sorry this CITO is on a weekday morning, but the organisation is not able to host us at weekends.

Parking
: There is free parking at the Parish Centre car park, by the community centre. (This is at the published co-ordinates.) There is also free parking for 2 hours across the road in the supermarket car park. Please allow for travel time and arrive five minutes early for CITO registration.

Where
: Meet in the car park at the Parish Centre (as per given CITO coordinates) or find us in the park!

What
: Join us lopping bamboo in Hatch Grange. Rick explains, ”We have a large clump of invasive species, Bamboo, in an area of Hatch Grange. This needs to be cut right back to ground level using a variety of hand tools. It then needs to be stacked, ready for disposal. We have a protocol  of not using any herbicides or pesticides hence the need to coppice manually.”

How
: Rick and Steve from the Friends of Hatch Grange will be there providing guidance and tools, (loppers, secateurs, saws and gloves.) Please wear warm clothing, sensible footwear (wellies are ideal if you have them) and your own gloves if you prefer. All other equipment will be provided.  The event will proceed in any weather unless there are high winds or storms. There will be appropriate tasks for almost any ability level.

Health and Safety
: All health and safety rules apply. Children will need supervision and pets kept under control.
