Geocache Description:

In it's early days, Wycliffe was closely linked to the Methodist church in Stonehouse, which then met in an iron chapel at Ryeford. Land next to Ivy Grove was used in 1911to build a chapel, to be shared between the school and the Methodists.

The clock tower and spire were added in 1921 as a memorial to the 77 Old Wycliffians who had died in World War l.

In 1939 the chapel was transferred from the Methodist church to the school, but in the same year, after the school had been evacuated, the nave was burned down.

Staff and boys rebuilt it in 1952- 58, with wood from a collapsed seaside pier and old river barges. Stone came from a redundant church at Frocester and oak chairs were made from old railway trucks.
