A bit of a local landmark, Glangrwyney Bridge is a large Bailey-type bridge that spans the River Usk close to the village of the same name, and as such it also spans the border between Powys and Monmouthshire.
So, depending on your outlook it's either just a bridge that crosses a river (and why not) or it is something of enginneering interest. Assuming you are of the second persuasion you'll be interested to know that it has a single span of 125 feet, with two side spans of 30 foot. Designed by Thomas Storey it is constructed with box steel using a lattice pattern and was made to replace an older toll bridge. I am told that it was only meant to be temporary structure but has endured for at least 30 years.
The Cache
Assuming you are approaching from Glangrwyney village you will have to park close to the left-hand corner just before the bridge (by the blue Glangrwyney sign is best) and carefully walk the short way on the narrow road to the bridge - please DO NOT try to pull up alongside the cache as there just isn't space and that would be a REALLY silly thing to do. Also, be careful on the narrow road as cars can come up fast!
The cache itself is a small magnetic container that is hidden on the lattice work.
***I'm sorry but because of the narrow road this isn't really wheelchair or stroller accessible.***
Many thanks to Powys County Council for giving permission for the placement of this cache.
