Geocache Description:

The master plan for the Red Rock Trail System proposes 750 miles of multi-use trails, parks, bike lanes, and sidewalks. The Fresh Water Landtrust's vision is for every trail within each corridor to be connected, allowing Jefferson County residents and visitors complete access to routine transportation and recreation. Once completed, the trail system will consist of seven corridors: Jones Valley and Valley Creek, Village Creek, Five Mile Creek, Shades Creek, Cahaba River, Turkey Creek, and Northern Beltway. The Birmingham Mineral Railroad or the L & N Mineral Railroad was a common-carrier railroad line opened in 1884 by the Louisville and Nashville RR on Red Mountain and across Jones Valley, encircling the city of Birmingham. It was a branch of the North & South Alabama RR, one of the two trunk railroads whose crossing established the location for the founding of the city of Birmingham in 1871. Now known as the Vulcan trail, it is special to me because it is just down the street from my house and a great place to be in "nature" but still in the heart of the city!!! This off-road trail is now 2.2 miles long and connects Vulcan Park & Museum to Green Springs Highway. Kiwanis Vulcan Trail is a new outdoor place where you can walk, run, and ride your bike and it is key for many of Birmingham’s future trail connections: to Red Mountain Park, to UAB, through downtown, and across Jefferson County. Please see http://freshwaterlandtrust.org/kiwanis-vulcan-trail/ for more information on this and other trails in the Jefferson County area. Parking is available at both ends of the trail. Be sure to lock your doors and don't leave anything in view.

All of these caches are placed within 10'-12' of the gravel trail just at the tree line. There is no need to venture down the hill into the neighbor's yard. I do not recommend doing the caches at night because the trail isn't lit. Permission has been granted for the placement of these caches on the High Ore Line by the Fresh Water Land Trust.

The GPS has a hard time settling down sometimes due to the mountian and thick tree cover. If you look at the hint and still can't find it please contact me.
