This park is dedicated to Kazakhstan’s first and at this point only president Nursultan Nazarbayev. He was a Kazakh politician who was appointed president when the office was created on 24 April 1990. On 25 October 1990 Kazakhstan declared its sovereignty on its territory as a republic within the Soviet Union. On 16 December 1991 Kazakhstan declared independence, becoming the last Soviet republic to do so. On 26 December 1991 (ten days later) the Soviet Union itself cesed to exist.
The construction of the park began in 2001 and the park was opened to the general public in Nov. 2011. It is a huge park with a total area of 73 hectare and has a length of app. 1.5 km from north to south. Right at the northern entrance the city’s largest fountain (with a music&light show in the evening) can be found. Several other historical features can be found in the park. The park also has many trees and flower beds. In honor of the participation of the city of Almaty in the Olympic torch relay of the Beijing Olympic Games (2008), about a hundred spruces and birches were planted. In 2011, a hundred Tien-Shan spruces were also planted. An oak was planted personally by the president in 2001.
Since this is such a prominent area in the city of Almaty we (Vader&zoon from The Netherlands) decided to leave a cache here (our third in the Almaty region). By doing this we are not saying anything about politics or Kazakhstan’s president as a person. We just love geocaching and left a multi cache here. The waypoints will guide you through the park a bit, but there is much more to explore. For finding the cache at a normal pace approximately one hour should be counted. If you enjoy the park it might be longer :-)

A statue of the president can be found here. At the back of the statue a little plate with information can be found. A certain combination of digits can be seen. The second digit = A. The first digit = F. Two words can be seen as well (diagonally). The total number of letters of these two words together minus 1 = B.

Here you will find an area where people can play backgammon. How many tables can you see here? Number of tables plus 1 = H
Waypoint 3 N43° 11.189 E76° 53.213
A monument can be found here. You can see a text in three different styles of letters. How many words does the letter style at the top level have? Answer plus 3 = C

A nice Japanese Garden can be seen here … enjoy!
Waypoint 5 N43° 10.977 E76° 53.146
Five flights of stairs upwards can be found here. Climb the stairs and count the steps of the fourth flight. The number of steps minus 4 = DE.
Now climb to the top where you see a cupola. The cupola has pillars and each pillar has a number of ‘ribs’ all around (and between two of them there is a (more or less) half circular space towards the inside). Count the ribs of 1 column and cut it down to one digit and then deduct 4. For example: 23 ribs = 2+3=5; 5 minus 4=1. The answer here = G.

Please post pictures of the park! (but not of the hiding place of course :-)
