A traditional cache in a series exploring the horror stories, films, myths and supernatural events of today and yesterday. Find them if you dare. Please do not interfere with the cache “scenery props” as given its the ammo can’s size they couldn’t conceal it. The hiding place will be fairly obvious when you arrive.
GZ is located in a lonely forest well out in the country and parking is available at the entrance to the rough lane. This was blocked by a forestry gate which is gone but don't take your car in as the track is not in a fit state for normal vehicles. This cache is about 200m from the parking spot and takes you across broken and uneven ground and boots or wellingtons are advised. The pine needles here have lain undisturbed for years and in places are many inches deep and will give way under footstep. It also involves stepping across small streams about eighteen inches wide. Take care as the cache is undertaken at your own risk and only attempt what you feel able to do. If you do try this at night you must have a strong torch and it should not be attempted alone.
The Evil Dead is a 1981 horror film by Sam Raimi and spawned a series of sequels and similar movies. It focuses on five US college students holidaying in an isolated cabin in a remote wooded area. After they find an old audio tape of ancient incantations they release a legion of demons and malevolent spirits. Members of the group suffer from supernatural possession leading to inevitable death and destruction. As the group succumb to this demonic infestation they turn on each other and a number of them are gruesomely murdered. Even as they try to escape the very trees of the forest attack them and they are forced back to the cabin which is becoming their tomb. Listening further to the tape it is discovered that the dead have to be dismembered or they will return. As one of the group, Linda, is buried, her companion Ash cannot bring himself to dismember her and she subsequently rises from the grave. Eventually Ash makes another bid to escape but just as he tries to reach his car the trees of the forest attack and death awaits.
As you stand in the forest now, lonely and desolate you can imagine that the cabin is nearby. Through trees you can see the beginnings of a clearing, Perhaps it is there. But you won't reach it, you know you won't. Nor will you escape it. No one else did. Your phone will struggle to guide you here. Perhaps the stream will show you a way. Wait what's that through the trees. You can see it now, perhaps you can reach it and then get out. Perhaps. But I wouldn't bet on it. Good luck you'll need it.
