The Doocot (Scots for Dovecote) was built in the 1600s as part of the original estate. There used to be a Gamekeeper's Lodge and kennels next to it, but unfortunately there is very little of them remaining. But the cache is placed at their faint ruins.
The Doocot was renovated in 2008 when the old cement mortar that had been used to repair it in the past was carefully picked out and replaced by lime mortar,similar to what would have been used originally. This means it now looks very similar to how it would have looked when it was built.
