Geocache Description:

This is a continuation of the series of caches associated with Hillside/Berkeley history. Sunnyside was the first school established in the area. This is the site of what I remember as Henry Wadsworth Longfellow School. Longfellow, established in 1919, was the second school in the Berkeley/Hillside area. Along with Riley also established in 1919, located in Northlake, the three schools formed District 87. Longfellow started as a two room schoolhouse and expanded from there. The school lost funding in the 1970's and was rented for various activities until destroyed in the early 1990's. The area is now a small single family sub-division.

The cache is technically located on private property. However, homeowner permission for cache placement was obtained. The original host is no longer there, so, a PAF may not be helpful for this 2/2025 replacement. Please replace it back where found.
