This geocache is placed in a park between a mall and high school, in honour of one of our Prime Ministers.
Pierre Elliott Trudeau, born October 18, 1919, died September 28, 2000, was the 15th Prime Minister of Canada (1968–1979 and 1980–1984). At time of this cache placement, he was the third longest serving PM (15 years, 164 days).
Trudeau was a prominent lawyer, and in the 1960s he entered federal politics as a member of the Liberal Party of Canada. Under Prime Minister Pearson, we was Parliamentary Secretary and later, Minister of Justice. Once taking the lead of the party, "Trudeaumania" took hold of the media, and from the late 1960s until the mid-1980s, he was a dominating political force never seen before in Canadian political life. He was in charge during one of our darkest moments, the Quebec terrorst crisis at the hands of the FLQ. He also dealt with the Quebec sovereignty movement, and achieved sweeping institutional reform, including the eshablishment of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, the patriation of the Consititution, and implementation of official bilingualism.
It was after a long walk in ths snow in the 1980s that PET decided to step down.
