Essex Meadows is a Continuing Care Retirement Community ("CCRC") in Essex CT. It is situated on 105 acres of low, forested land with many ponds. It is separated from the 1,000 acre forest known as The Preserve by a crushed stone service road created by Eversource. The simplest way to reach this cache is to park in the Essex Land Trust East Trailhead which is just off Ingham Hill Road IN ESSEX. (I put this in upper case as you can also reach Ingham Hill Road in Old Saybrook. The remains of the old, connecting road still runs through The Preserve. An old timer told me that long ago, the people in Saybrook walked north to shop in Essex. Now we Essex Residents drive south to Old Saybrook to shop. Times have changed!) Retrace your steps about 75 yards until you come to a path with a sign that invites you into Essex Meadows. Dogs are allowed but MUST be leashed. At the end of this short path turn right and begin your search. Do not enter the woods too soon! The search becomes easier if you go further down the path before entering the woods. This is the second cache Essex Meadows has hidden on its property. There are four PREMIUM caches nearby in The Preserve on the other side of the service road that were placed by Jolly.Roger. Have a look at them while you are in the neighborhood.
