Whip-Ma-Whop-Ma-What-Now? Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

timelord442: Unfortunately, it's time for this one to go. Since it was placed, 2.5 years ago its gone missing so many times I've lost count. However now a shop has been built right outside, meaning any cover it did have is now lost. Thank you ever so much for visiting. Perhaps once again there will be a new York centre cache soon

Geocache Description:

Welcome to Whip-Ma-Whop-Ma-Gate. York’s shortest road.

This cache celebrates our 25th cache hide and the first that I have placed in the vicinity of York since arriving at university. (I promise that it will not be the last...)
This spectacle of a street was first recorded in 1505 with a name roughly translating to “Nothing at all.” This little area in the centre of York is the intersect of Fossgate, Colliergate, Pavement and Stonebow. The name and heritage means that this is also a particularly popular spot with tourists and you will often find people and groups taking photos of the infamous road sign, placed on the wall a-front the church.

I discovered this place back in October and I was surprised to see that a cache had not been placed here already. However. Taking the knowledge of this being such a high muggle area, I have provided this as a challenge to the average cacher (but may just be a walk in the park for some of the locals!). The cache was placed during the annual Ice Sculpture festival which actually meant some of the crowds were a little further away from here than usual.

Please take care when retrieving and replacing the cache. And I would love to see any photos that you take in the city. Especially with the sign. Have fun!
