Geocache Description:

This cache is hidden in a park in "The city Reborn from the Ashes of America's Most Disaterous Forest Fire on October 8, 1871." Hence the "Phoenix." Within a few hours the lives of 800 people were lost! This was on the same day as the famous Chicago fire. Click here to read about the Peshtigo fire!

After helping a friend move from Appleton to the area, I set out to place this cache right before dark! I asked him to lead me to a nice park with wooded hiking trails, and this is where he brought me. There is a camp ground here along with a 10,000 square foot playground/recreation area for the kids called "Badger boardwalk." I'm not sure if dogs are allowed, but saw a woman walking 2 of them while I was here. I entered on the main trail directly ahead of the road/parking area and walked in towards a lot of wood chips and veered left along the many trails. On the way out, I walked more directly to the truck and was perhaps 100 yards behind a maintenance building, which may have had a campsite by it. The cache area had both freshly downed trees and some very old stumps. This way of entering the cache area should keep you away from the campsites. Please be sure to conceal as good or better than you found it!
The container is a 7.62MM ammo box which measures 3.5" X 10". I repainted the exterior of the ammo box a bit to remove the military markings and added the name of the cache.

As for the 2 fireman figurines, if you want both and feel like doing a double travelbug race to NYC and back type thing, that might be cool ;) but not a requirement of any sort if someone would like to trade for one. Also be sure to visit the nearby Fire museum, open from Memorial weekend to October 8th, hours are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily. Be sure to visit the nearby cache "Northwoods Catastrophy" by Anderson Crew.
