La Sorgente Catena, di troppo pieno, si trova a circa 100 m a monte della Grotta di Fiume Coperto, all’interno si nota l’opera muraria di probabile epoca romana inglobata nelle opere di sostegno della strada degli inizi del XX secolo, la sua temperatura è intorno ai 16°C e la ricca presenza di calcio, magnesio e ioni carbonato testimoniano la sua origine carsica. Il nome deriva dall'antica catena che veniva messa a sbarrare la strada e rimossa solo dopo il pagamento di una gabella di pedaggio.
La torre medioevale dell’Acquapuzza da secoli, con la sua imponente mole, domina la sottostante via Pedemontana Volsca, via che consentiva le comunicazioni tra Roma e il sud del Lazio, relativamente all’area pontina. Tale torre ha svolto per molto tempo una importante funzione di controllo e di dogana. Con la fine delle signorie medioevali essa ha perso la sua originale importanza, fino all’abbandono da parte dell’uomo, diventando un sicuro rifugio soltanto per malinconici gufi. Una curiosita: la torre è riprodotta nei vecchi bolli della patente cartacea, quelli più grandi di noi geocacher possono facilmente verificarlo.
Il Monte Acquapuzza, sito nel comune di Bassiano (Lt), è conosciuto sin dall’antichità per le numerose sorgenti ricche di acido solfidrico, ed in particolare quella dell’Acqua Putrida, come la chiamavano gli antichi, per via del caratteristico odore che emana. Questa particolarità è dovuta alla risalita delle acque idrotermali presenti in profondità. Ricco di grotte uniche per storia, conformazione e dal punto di vista micro-faunistico, seppur di modeste dimensioni, già interessate alcune di loro da una ricerca biospeleologica, iniziata nel 1997 e curata dal Gruppo Speleologico CAI di Latina insieme al Circolo Speleologico Romano, è nel 2001 però che lo Speleo Club Roma intraprende uno studio specifico dell’area, insieme alle associazioni sopra citate, ottenendo dalla Regione Lazio un contributo ai sensi dell’art. 9 - comma 1- L.R. n. 20/99. Sono stati scoperti e studiati alcuni fenomeni a cui mai nessuno aveva fatto caso o dato la giusta importanza, e fenomeni che creano nei gessi spettacoli possibili solo in natura. Lo studio, ha messo in evidenza caratteristiche biologiche, geologiche e chimiche così straordinarie da ritenere che debbano essere salvaguardate.

Some phenomena have been discovered and studied, to which no one has ever taken notice or given the right importance, and phenomena that create gypsies that are only possible in nature. The study has highlighted such extraordinary biological, geological and chemical characteristics that it must be safeguarded.
