*HOUMA TRAVEL GEOTOUR PHASE 1 REVAMP CACHE!*
Stop and take it all in... Welcome to Isle de Jean Charles! A beautiful narrow island nestled between the bayous of the southern parts of Terrebonne Parish. Home to fantastic fishing, breath taking views of the water, and home to a local band of the Biloxi-Chitimacha-Choctaw tribe of Native Americans.
In 2016, this area became the first ever community in the U.S. to receive federal assistance for retreat due to climate change. In other words, this area, home to a tight knit community that love and cherish their homeland, is sinking.
This area along Island Road is among one of the most beautiful in the parish. Your coordinates will take you to a spot popular for fishing, sightseeing, crabbing, and more. Pull along side the road and search for a micro. Use your geosenses! Be cautious of the rocks--they can be quite slippery, especially if the tide is high. Don't forget to snap your photo and share this beautiful scenery.
