Welcome to George Wainborn Park. The park has a nice open field, shady places to sit, a playground, and views of False Creek. In the upper, north-east portion of the park there is a large water feature surrounded by benches. A relatively short giant Sequoia tree is located a little further south-west. The lower portion of the park is mostly grass field, with some trees and benches scattered around. The seawall runs through the south-western most part of the park, along the waterfront. The park is very popular with dog walkers in the evenings.
The park is named for Vancouver's longest serving Park Board Commissioner, George Wainborn, who contributed to the City's parks and recreation system for 33 years between 1956 and 1990. Wainborn passed away in 2003, and George Wainborn Park was opened in September 2004. During his time as Vancouver Park Commissioner, Wainborn created the miniature railway in Stanely Park. Wainborn was named Freeman of the City of Vancouver in 1991, and a recipient of the Order of Canada in 1999.
