I recently placed a cache near the site of the old BCER Leeside station. I really enjoyed learning about the history of the tram system while researching the location for that cache. When I discovered the connection to the BCER at this site I decided to place another one along the old line using this as the starting point. I’ll let you visit the plaques to learn the history and solve the final coordinates.
Virtual Waypoint 1: Sample’s Boarding House Plaque
- X = Year the town was built on this site
- Y = Year Mr. Sample became the line’s first road master
- Z = Year Burnaby’s first Council held its first meeting here
Visit Virtual Waypoint 2: Power House Plaque
- S = Number of vertical sides on plaque column (not including top)
- T = Number of gas boilers firing the electric plant
- U = Number of letters in the brand name of the electric generators
- V = Numerical month of date listed on third from last line
- W = 2 digit day of date listed on third from last line
Use the information from the clues above to solve the final coordinates:
- A = 4th digit of X
- B = (Y-X)/2
- C = T
- D = 1st digit of W
- E = S
- F = (Y-Z)
- G = 4th digit of Y
- H = (V-2)
- I = U-1
- J = 2nd digit of W
Final coordinates: N49 AB.CDE, W122 FG.HIJ
You can use the following to confirm your numbers:
- North checksum = A+B+C+D+E = 9
- West checksum = F+G+H+I+J = 26
