Franklin County, Missouri is celebrating its bi-centennial this year (2019). In commemoration of this year long celebration, I will be placing a large number of geocaches around the county celebrating this historic event. It all started at the site of the very first courthouse which was located in the very tiny town of New Port, Missouri. The site where the first courthouse stood is directly across the road from New Port Presbyterian Church, 2745 Newport Road, New Port, MO.
A permanent monument to mark the site of the first Franklin County courthouse in Newport was dedicated in a public ceremony on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018. Although no pictures have been found of the 1st Franklin County Courthouse, there are a few stones visible next the building just about 20' Southwest of the marker. There are rumors that the red doors of the original courthouse are in storage somewhere in a barn and still may show up someday!
The coordinates will take you to the marker that was placed back in September 2018 commemorating the site of the 1st courthouse. The final is located nearby at N 38 35.ABC W 091 06.DEF'
