Geocache Description:

St George's Church is an Anglican church in the village of Eastergate in West Sussex
It is the ancient parish church of Eastergate, although since 1992 it has been administered as part of a joint ecclesiastical parish with the churches in neighbouring Barnham and Aldingbourne.

The present building was started around the time of the Norman conquest of England.
Several church historians have come to different conclusions about its origins: it has been suggested that the chancel is Saxon, that the whole building is the one recorded in the Domesday Book, that it is "possibly pre-Conquest"

Before you can solve the cache first some information

Inside the Earth constantly changes are taking place and shaping our world as we know it, those changes take a long time from the past until the present time, all these changes are recorded in the rocks which make up the Earth's crust, such as granite and slate and all natural, non-living solid material found in or at the Earth's surface, including for example mud and peat.

There are 3 main types of rocks to be found inside the earth as well on the surface

1 – Igneous Rocks

Igneous rocks form from molten rock and when solidifies rises to the surface of the earth and in the earth's crust
Igneous rocks are divided into two groups, intrusive or extrusive , depending upon where the molten rock solidifies.

Intrusive Igneous Rocks:

Intrusive, or plutonic igneous rock forms when magma is trapped deep inside the Earth.
Great globs of molten rock rise toward the surface. Some of the magma may feed volcanoes on the Earth's surface, but most remains trapped below. The cooling down takes a very long time.

Extrusive Igneous Rocks:

Extrusive, or volcanic, igneous rock is produced when magma and cools above the surface of the Earth. The magma, or lava when molten rock erupts on the surface, cools and solidifies almost immediately when it is exposed to the relatively cool temperature of the atmosphere.

Intrusive rock for example Granite

Extrusive rock for example Basalt

2 – Sedimentary Rocks
Sedimentary rocks often have a layering or bedding. Many of the picturesque views of our Jurassic coast show made of layered sedimentary rock.
Examples for these types of rock are sandstone, limestone, shale.

Individual layers can often show what happened at the ancient surface, like footprints, worm trails, ripple marks and fossils, can all tell us to show the actual environment the layers were deposited in.

3 – Metamorphic Rocks
Metamorphic rocks form when rocks are subjected to high heat and high pressure . These ideal circumstances you will find deep in the Earth.

Foliated Metamorphic Rocks:
Some kinds of metamorphic rocks -- schist, gneiss, and slate are a few examples -- because of the pressure they form sheet-like structures

Non-Foliated Metamorphic Rocks:
Non-foliated metamorphic rocks do not have a platy or sheet-like structure like for instance marble made
