This is a short trail, going round in a loop.
You can start from the car park at the castle (Cache 1: Log the Fairy Door) and take a leisurely walk through the Chinese Garden, down the hill towards the Fairy Glen, along the shores of Loch Lomond, before heading back up the hill to the castle. Shouldn’t take much more than an hour, but the slope is quite steep.
The caches are small, you might need tweezers. Please replace exactly as found and ensure they are closed properly.
Follow the trail behind the stump (gap in the bushes/trees to the left) till you see the most amazing tree!
Info on Balloch
Loch Lomond’s only country park commands impressive views over its waters, spanning 200 acres which include walled gardens, nature trails and guided walks.
First recognised as a country park in 1980, it was originally developed in the early 19th century. Both the park and Balloch Castle were built by John Buchanan, a partner in the Glasgow Ship Bank.
Though the castle now lies derelict, it was once the main visitor centre for the park, while also acting as the headquarters for the Countryside Ranger Service.
Since the early 1990s Balloch Castle Country Park has hosted several major music events, including gigs from Oasis and R.E.M. which both attracted over 80,000 people to Loch Lomond.
