Questo cache ti porta alla spiaggia antistante la torre di San Macario, costruita dagli Spagnoli nel 1595 sull’isola di San Macario, un antico blocco vulcanico a circa 400 metri dalla Punta di Santa Vittoria di Pula. L’appellativo deriva dall’antico culto che si praticava presso il monastero bizantino dedicato a San Macario, i cui ruderi si ergono sul lato occidentale dell’isolotto. Sull’isola, ricoperta da una fitta vegetazione mediterranea, si trovano inoltre i ruderi di alcuni edifici, di una tonnara e di una chiesetta dedicata a San Macario.
La torre, situata in una posizione di grande valore paesaggistico, costituiva una delle strutture difensive costiere dell’area sud occidentale della Sardegna. Era una torre ‘de armas’, atta alla difesa pesante, e grazie alla sua posizione strategica, a largo della foce del Rio di Pula, approdo ideale dei corsari per il rifornimento di acqua e legna, impediva qualsiasi azione di sbarco nell’area costiera; la presenza della torre, inoltre, permetteva a molti pescatori delle tonnare di frequentare in tranquillità i mari vicini senza la paura di finire preda dei pirati.
Nel 1842, anno in cui fu soppressa la Reale Amministrazioni delle Torri, la torre trovò posto nei vari progetti di riutilizzo militare delle Regie Fortificazioni. Durante la seconda guerra mondiale, il suo posto fu rilevato dalla batteria costiera antinave denominata Boggio, situata nel dirimpettaio Monte Santa Vittoria. La Torre di San Macario fa parte del circuito.
La spiaggia dove è nascosto il cache si raggiunge in auto percorrendo uno stradello sterrato lasciando la spiaggia di Nora e seguendo le indicazioni per Parco Santa Vittoria – Torre San Macario.
TOWER OF SAN MACARIO
This cache takes you to the beach in front of the tower of San Macario, built by the Spanish in 1595 on the island of San Macario, an ancient volcanic block about 400 meters from the Punta di Santa Vittoria di Pula. The name derives from the ancient cult that was practiced at the Byzantine monastery dedicated to San Macario, whose ruins rise on the western side of the islet. On the island, covered by dense Mediterranean vegetation, there are also the ruins of some buildings, a tonnara and a church dedicated to San Macario.
The tower, located in a position of great landscape value, was one of the coastal defensive structures of the south-west area of Sardinia. It was a 'de armas' tower, suitable for heavy defense, and thanks to its strategic position, off the mouth of the Rio di Pula, an ideal landing place for the pirates to supply water and wood, it prevented any landing action in the coastal area ; the presence of the tower, moreover, allowed many fishermen of the tuna fishermen to attend the nearby seas in peace without the fear of ending up prey to pirates.
In 1842, the year in which the Royal Administrations of the Towers were suppressed, the tower found a place in the various projects of military reuse of the Royal Fortifications. During the Second World War, its place was taken over by the anti-ship coastal battery called Boggio, located in the opposite Monte Santa Vittoria. The Torre di San Macario is part of the circuit.
The beach where the cache is hidden can be reached by car along a dirt road leaving the beach of Nora and following the signs for Santa Vittoria Park - Torre San Macario.
