Backen i halfpipe är utformad som ett halvt rör, därav namnet halfpipe. Backen lutar mellan 17-18 grader och är mellan 150-170 meter lång. Bredden på banan är mellan 19-22 meter och höjden på väggarna är 6,7 meter.
De tävlandes använder väggarna för att göra olika hopp, rotationer och trick samtidigt som de glider ned för banan. Ett domarteam på sex personer kommer sedan att bedöma svårighetsgraden, höjden, tekniken och rotationer på åket.
De två bästa och sämsta poängen av domarna kommer att räknas bort sen är det snittpoängen av de kvarvarande poängen som blir slutpoängen för åket. Som mest kan en åkare få 100 poäng men att få full pott är ytterst ovanligt. Varje deltagare kommer att göra två åk och endast det bästa åket med den högsta poängen kommer att räknas.

The jig in the halfpipe is designed as a half pipe, hence the name halfpipe. The slope slopes between 17-18 degrees and is between 150-170 meters long. The width of the track is between 19-22 meters and the height of the walls is 6.7 meters.
The contestants use the walls to make different jumps, rotations and tricks while sliding down the track. A judging team of six people will then assess the severity, height, technique and rotations of the ride.
The two best and worst points of the judges will be counted down then the average score of the remaining points will be the final score for the race. At most a rider can get 100 points but getting a full pot is extremely unusual. Each participant will make two rides and only the best ride with the highest score will be counted.
