Geocache Description:

23 March 2019, 12:00 - 14:00

CITO (Cache In Trash Out ®) Events are a way for the geocaching community to take care of the natural areas we enjoy while geocaching.

Cache In Trash Out is an ongoing environmental initiative supported by the worldwide geocaching community. Since 2002, geocachers around the world have been dedicated to improving parks and other cache-friendly places. Through these volunteer efforts, we help preserve the natural beauty of our outdoor resources!

Geocachers around the world celebrate International Cache In Trash Out weekend annually by hosting and participating in Cache In Trash Out Events in their local area. Events might be focused on litter clean-up, removal of invasive species, revegetation efforts or building trails. Together, we make an enormous positive impact and have a bit of fun while we're at it.

This year, the CITO weeks have been extended to include 3 months in the spring and another 3 in the autumn. Now in its 17th Year Cache In Trash Out period for spring is scheduled to include all March April and May.

A CITO event has its own Geocaching icon  and statistical entry, so for those who have never taken part in one before, now is your opportunity to be rewarded with something new. And Groundspeak has confirmed that there will, once again, be a special souvenir for those logging an Attended at any CITO event during this spring campaign.

The event

When - Saturday 23rd March
Time - 12 noon
Where - The posted coordinates

We will meet at the posted coords and clean up Gobby beach and Loughbeg beach. I estimate we will be finished by about 2pm. The council have suggested this area and having done a recce visit I agree that it could do with some TLC. These beaches attract a lot of Flotsam and Jetsam so it’s an ongoing problem here. Low tide this day is about 13.30

What to Bring

Well, first of all - bring yourself! Bring the family. And a friend. Neighbours too - we're not proud. If bringing children, however, please consider whether you feel this activity is really suitable or safe for them. Please err on the side of caution, as litter clean-up can be hazardous for anyone, not least children; We will of course be close to the sea.

Other things to bring

Work or Garden Gloves (We will have some of these)

A litter picker, if you have one

Hiking Boots/Wellingtons

Rainwear, if appropriate

A First Aid kit mightn't be a bad idea

What will be provided

AnTaisce's National Spring Clean initiative has provided a good supply of refuse bags and a few pairs of gardening gloves. Cork County Council will dispose of the litter collected at the end of the event.

Afterwards, we'll put our mountain of trash together and take a photo, as is the time-honoured CITO tradition.

There might be biccie cake afterwards too

IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER
