Geocache Description:

Background:

On friday the 15th of February 2019 Vespucci College (a Dutch high school on Curacao) organized Discovery Day. All pupils of the school learned about the culture and nature of Curacao through geocaching. The school was divided within four themes: Arts & LiteratureMonuments & HistoryNature and Geography & Geology. The pupils prepared geocaches with different subjects within these four themes and on Discovery Day these caches were hidden by the pupils.
Vespucci College hopes to learn locals and tourists about the culture and nature of Curacao through these caches too! Happy caching!

The cache:

This cache is dedicated to Boka Sint Marie, a beautifull and rugged bay at the end of a wonderfull hike around the salt ponds of Jan Kok. On the left side you will see 'Bullenbaai' oil terminal which is operated by Refineria Isla. Bullenbaai terminal has a storage capacity, which is used for the storage of crude oil, white products and bunker oil. On the right side you'll see a pipeline which can be crossed (carefully!) if you would like to proceed to walk around the salt ponds of Jan Kok and visit the ruinous plantation of St Marie. Make sure you bring enough water!

Did you know the plantation house Sint Marie was one of the first nine plantation houses built by the Dutch West India Company?

This cache was made by Isa (1ab), Veerle (1ab) and Evie (1ab) of Vespucci College.
