Geocache Description:

Murray Park Cemetery is located in a reserve of natural vegetation preserved for its local environmental significance.
There is a short walking loop of well marked paths through the park. There are numerous entry points to the park, and toilets. No bikes are allowed in the cemetery or surrounding park and dogs are only allowed if they are kept on leashes.

Murray Park Cemetery is the original Murray Bridge Cemetery and contains burials of historical significance.

The first Burial took place in 1885.
The Cemetery was closed in 1886 - because under the shallow surface was a thick bed of limestone which made grave digging an arduous job. Blasting had to be carried out in order to break through the limestone.

South Australian Government Gazette November 11, 1886
MURRAY BRIDGE
BY virtue of the provisions of Act No. 19 of 1862, intituled " An Act for the regulation of Cemeteries," I, the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, do hereby order, direct, and proclaim that all that portion of the hundred of Mobilong, bounded as follows :--
Comprising all that portion of the hundred of Mobilong bounded on the south-west by the north-eastern boundary of section 412 ; on the northwest by the south-eastern boundary of section 40G, and portion of the south-eastern boundary of section 408 ; on the north-east by the southwestern boundary of section 409 ; and on the south-cast by the northwestern side of three chain road north-west of sections 415 and 413— now and lately known and used as a cemetery there, called the Murray Bridge cemetery, shall, from the date hereof, be totally closed and cease to be used as a cemetery, saving, nevertheless, the rights of all persons who may have acquired a portion of the said cemetery for a vault or grave to bury any member of their respective families therein. Given under my hand and the public seal of the said province, at Adelaide, this tenth day of November, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty-six, and in the fiftieth year of Her Majesty's reign.
By command,
DAVID MURRAY, Chief Secretary.

Unfortunately due to the age of the cemetery most of the grave sites are no longer clearly defined. The only remaining headstones have fallen in to disrepair and are unreadable.
A monument has been erected which lists recorded burials in the cemetery.
