This Geocache is intended to acknowledge the Bee Gees and their Sydney heritage
This is a heavily trafficked area so a HIGH degree of stealth is required - preferably under the cloak of darkness
The house that formerly stood on this site was once called home to a young unknown band called the Bee Gees. Struggling to find their sound they finally had huge success in disco and became giants in the industry. In 2004 the house was dedicated by the Hon Bob Carr MP and a plaque was raised in their honour.
The plaque read as follows: The Bee Gees Barry, Robin and Maurice, along with their younger brother Andy Gibb - lived here between 1963 and 1966. The band was formed in 1958, signed its first record contract in 1963 in Sydney, and became the most successful musical act in Australian history.
The Bee Gees have visited the site since, most notably during the Black Saturday Benefit Concert where they were to play in Melbourne. On route they arrived at this Sydney house asking to have a tour but were refused as the house had just exchanged sale contracts and was in the midst of being packed up. The owner stated it was “too messy” for them to enter.
The house was sold and the new owners maintained old premises for over 7 years but the young family that had purchased the house had outgrown it and were considering selling or renovating. Unfortunately the house no longer stands on this site as it was demolished in September 2016 and rebuilt into the semis that you see there now.
When asked for comment regarding the demolition, former MP Carr stated that “it was a tragedy”, in reference to the Bee Gees #1 smash hit.
