This famous Eagle Scout was born May 20, 1908 and died July 2, 1997. He was a beloved person known around the world. He was an actor who's down-home character who was always sincere, but he could make a action film with the best of them.
He was gifted in many types of movies such as drama, comedy, westerns, war movies, and thrillers. Like many of his fellow actors, he put his acting career on hold to volunteer in the military during WW2. He became a decorated bomber pilot in the Army Air Corp and would eventually retire from the reserves as a General in the Air Force.
Some of his MANY notable movies are Vertigo, Mr. Smith Goes To Washington, Spirit of St. Louis, Harvey, It's a Wonderful Life, and John Wayne's last movie The Shootist.
