Weatherball red, warmer ahead. Weatherball blue, cooler in view. Weatherball green, no change foreseen. Colors blinking bright, rain or snow in sight.
.
This color changing sphere is used as a gimmick to forecast local weather, The original weatherball, installed in 1967 was a a 64-ton, 125-foot-tall structure perched on top of the Michigan National Bank building in downtown Grand Rapids. The weatherball is now perched on top of a 100-foot (30 m) monopole, and was first lit (at this, the current location) on May 7, 2003.
