Der südliche Gipfel des Pico Viejo!
Am Pico Viejo (der alte Berg) ereignete sich die bisher letzte Eruption in den Grenzen der Caldera Las Cañadas. Vom 9. Juni bis zum 14. September 1798 fand an seiner Flanke ein Ausbruch der Stärke 3 des Vulkanexplosivitätsindex statt.
Die Hochebene des Pico Sur (südlicher Gipfel) sind die Überreste eines Lavasees. An dessem westlichem Rand der Geocache liegt.
Nicht nur unter dem Gesichtspunkt der Größe betrachtet steht der Pico Viejo mit seiner Höhe von 3.134 Metern im Schatten des Pico del Teide, auch die Touristenscharen zieht es vor allem zu seinem großen Nachbarn. Dabei ist der Pico Viejo, wie der Name schon sagt, der ältere Teil des Zwillingsvulkans.
Sein farbenprächtiger Krater hat einen Durchmesser von ca. 800 Metern und eine Tiefe von ungefähr 225 Metern. Der südliche Gipfel, der Pico Sur, bildet ein prachtvolles Felsplateau und liegt auf einer Höhe von 3.105 Metern.
Vom Geocache aus hat man einen wunderbaren Blick auf den nordöstlich gelegenen Pico del Teide. Im Süden überblickt man Teile der Caldera und die westliche Küstenregion Teneriffas. Bei klarem Wetter reicht die Sicht bis zu den drei westlichen Nachbarinseln (La Palma, Gomera und El Hiero).
Der Pico Viejo kann über unterschiedliche Touren erwandert werden. Die leichteste Strecke als Abwanderung beginnt an der Bergstation der Seilbahn »La Rambletta« und verläuft über den Mirador de Pico Viejo (Sendero 12) zum Vulkankrater und dann hoch zum Plateau (über den Sendero 9). Bitte beachtet den Reverenzpunkt. Als Abbiegepunkt vom Hauptweg.

The southern peak of Pico Viejo!
At Pico Viejo (the old mountain), the last eruption occurred within the die border of the Caldera Las Cañadas. From June 9th to September 14th 1798, an eruption of magnitude 3 of the volcanic explosivity index took place on its flank.
The plateau of Pico Sur (southern summit) is the remnant of a lava lake. The geocache lies on its western edge.
The Pico Viejo is with its height of 3.134 meters in the shadow of the Pico del Teide, it attracts also the tourist crowds to its big neighbor. The Pico Viejo, as the name already says, is the older part of the twin volcano.
His colourful crater has a diameter of approx. 800 metres and a depth of approximately 225 meters. The southern peak, the Pico sur, forms a magnificent rocky plateau and is situated at an altitude of 3.105 meters.
From the Geocache, you have a wonderful view over the Pico del Teide. In the South, overlooking parts of the Caldera and the western coast of Tenerife. On a clear day, the view extends to the western neighbouring islands (La Palma, Gomera und El Hiero).
The Pico Viejo can be hiked via different tours. The easiest route starts as downhill hike from the mountain station of the cable car »la Rambletta« and runs over the Mirador de Pico Viejo (sendero 12) to the volcano crater and then up to the plateau (over the sendero 9). Please note the reference point. As a turn up point from the main path.
