This is a wonderful family-oriented cache site situated at Wasa Lake in the East Kootenays.
Camp at the spacious provincial camp ground before setting off to visit this cache site. The cache, itself, is situated part way along a self-guided nature trail ajacent to the provincial camp site. The Forest of the Rainshadow Trail is a total of 2.4km and is easy travelling for the whole family. The cache site is in an open grassland area and will give ample opportunity for younger members of the family to practice their GPS and cache-hunting skills.
Are you ready to venture into a land where lions lurk underground, grasses whisper their secrets and skeletons of trees support life? Explore this trail to discover that life adapted to a hot, dry climate is much more than just a dry subject.
Start at the camp amphitheatre. Wander through Ponderosa Pine and Douglas Fir forest as you make your way gradually uphill to open grasslands. Spend some time enjoying the benchland area with its views of Wasa Lake and both the Rocky and Purcell mountain ranges. Along the way investigate how the forces of nature and the influence of humans have shaped the Forest of the Rainshadow.
