Geocache Description:

HOLY BAT GUANO BATMAN!
SOMEONE HAS FOUND THE
SECRET LOCATION OF THE

BAT CAVE!

NOTE: Cache is now SMALL. Room for geocoins but nothing bigger.

Entrance to the Bat Cave

The whole idea of this particular GeoCache is to be easy, fun and to let people discover the Bat Cave. This cave has been used in many, many movies and TV shows.

Exit from the Bat Cave

But the most famous, or at least to me, use of this cave was in the original Batman TV series. They filmed that clip of when Batman would drive the Bat Mobile either in or out of the "hidden BatCave" at this location. It was just a few moments of footage, but that scene was filmed at this location.

Fuschia-flowered gooseberry near the cache site

This is a part of Griffith Park and there is a picnic area down by where you would park with grass and a playground there too.

View from the cache site

And the only thing I am going to tell you about it is come in from the WEST. Please do not attempt approaching the GeoCache from the east. Yes, your GPS may say from the East is shorter, but it is very very steep and the ground is very very loose. It's unsafe. Come from the west and its a nice and easy walk. From where you park it's less than half mile if that.

California peony near the cache site

I recommend coming anytime after 1PM to this location. The mountain this "Bat Cave" is in casts a very nice shadow on the backside which will be a nice area to sit for awhile and enjoy the cool breezes that flow through this canyon.

Not a bat, perched above the Bat Cave

Did I mention this is my first hiding of a GeoCache? This is a short and fun hunt. And please don't forget to log your visit in the Log Book. If you want more guidance on getting to the cache, see this photo of the approach trail .

WARNINGS: There's a LOT of PO (poison oak) in the area of the cache -- be careful if you are sensitive to it. However, you do not need to touch PO to reach the cache. The social trail from near the cave entrance up to the cache, about 50' higher, is steep and the footing is poor -- there's no exposure or real danger, but you can definitely slip and scrape yourself. Wear good shoes, and consider protecting your arms and legs. The 2.5 terrain rating is a hiker's rating; mostly-urban cachers may think it's a bit higher.

(Notes by paleolith: The above description is mostly Morty's original, except that I added new photos and the warnings and did some other light editing.)

Not a bat, flying in the ampitheater behind the Bat Cave

(Notes by gsmX2: I added a waypoint to the side trail that goes within feet of the geocache. No bushwhacking is required.)
