Die Geschichte
Nach der Eroberung der Insel gründeten die Spanier im Auftrag der Katholischen Könige 1491 die Gemeinde Agüimes, allerdings bestand hier schon vorher eine Siedlung der Altkanarier. Agüimes wurde als Bischofssitz gegründet und der Kirche geschenkt, um sich für die finanzielle Unterstützung und die gute Zusammenarbeit während der Eroberung zu bedanken. Der Ort stand danach etwa 400 Jahre unter der Herrschaft verschiedener Bischöfe.
Die historische Altstadt
Malerische Gassen mit bunten Häusern im kanarischen Stil aus dem 15. Jahrhundert, große und kleine Plätze zum Verweilen und eine originelle Sammlung von Skulpturen, die in der ganzen Altstadt aufgestellt wurden, laden zum flanieren ein. Agüimes ist als „Conjunto histórico-artístico“ klassifiziert, also als Ort mit einem historischen Ortskern oder künstlerisch bedeutenden Bauwerken.

The history
After the conquest of the island, the Spanish founded the municipality of Agüimes in 1491 on behalf of the Catholic Monarchs, although a settlement of the ancient Canarians already existed here. Agüimes was founded as a bishop's seat and was given to the church to thank for the financial support and the good cooperation during the conquest. The village was then under the rule of various bishops for about 400 years.
The historic old town
Picturesque alleys with colourful Canarian-style houses from the 15th century, large and small squares to linger in and an original collection of sculptures set up throughout the old town invite you to stroll. Agüimes is classified as a "Conjunto histórico-artístico", i.e. a place with a historical centre or artistically significant buildings.
