L'alluvione di Firenze del 4 novembre 1966 fa parte di una serie di straripamenti del fiume Arno che hanno mutato, nel corso dei secoli, il volto della città di Firenze. Fu uno dei più gravi eventi alluvionali accaduti in Italia, e causò forti danni anche in gran parte della Toscana. Dopo la catastrofe molti volontari accorsero da tutta Italia per aiutare la capitale rinascimentale: i cosiddetti Angeli del fango di cui faceva parte anche il giovane Francesco De Gregori. Celebre ad ogni fiorentino la canzone ironica del cantautore locale Riccardo Marasco: “L’alluvione”.
“Nuoti sommerso in un mare di cacca
non sai se di uomo oppure di vacca
non sai capire icchè t’è successo
ti pare troppa per esser di un cesso.”
La leggenda narra che un ortolano, famoso in tutta la città per la sue bestemmie tanto lunghe quanto fantasiose che intrattenevano gran parte del quartiere, fu visto dopo l’alluvione, mentre spalava il fango dalla strada, rivolgersi al Signore guardando il cielo con tono di rassegnazione gridando: “Io un so più che dirti!”

The Florence flood of November 4, 1966 is part of a series of overflows of the Arno River that have changed, over the centuries, the face of the city of Florence. It was one of the worst flood events in Italy, and caused great damage even in much of Tuscany. After the catastrophe many volunteers came from all over Italy to help the Renaissance capital. After this event, many songs and film were made to remember this catastrophe.
Legend tells that a gardener, famous throughout the city for his long and imaginative blasphemies against God that entertained much of the neighborhood, was seen after the flood, while shoveling the mud from the street, turn to the Lord looking at the sky in a tone of resignation shouting: "I do not know what to tell you anymore!"
