Geocache Description:

Christ the King Monument in Floriana Near Valletta, Malta

The International Eucharistic Congress is a meeting of Roman Catholic cardinals, archbishops, clergy and lay people from around the world who gather for a series of ceremonies over several days. Since the tradition began at Lille, France, in 1881 it has been subsequently hosted by different international cities. This bronze statue of Christ the Redeemer in Floriana by sculptor Antonio Sciortino commemorates when the 24th congress was held in Malta in 1913.

The sides of the pedestal have Latin inscriptions related to the 1913 Eucharistic Congress held in our island. Some letters (about five) are missing in these inscriptions. These should be fitted forthwith so the inscriptions can be read by those familiar with Latin.

There is only the name of the Roman foundry inscribed at the bottom right-hand side of the female figure representing Malta.

Near to the Phoenicia Hotel, is this commemorative monument of the 24th Eucharistic Congress of 1913 which took place in Malta. Kristu Re (The Monument of Christ the King) , as it is locally known, portrays the figure of Christ. The stance of one foot forward signifies the journey of spreading the Word of God from country to country. Below him is a draped figure representing Malta. She is kneeling in spiritual reverence and bears grapes, vine leaves and sheaths of wheat as offerings that symbolise the Eucharist. The roundel to the front of the monument is the Eucharistic symbol of the selfless, sacrificial bird, the pelican.

The Latin inscriptions on the sides relate to the 1913 Congress, if your Latin is good enough you may note an error or two. To locate the cache you will need to observe, but, not translate, these inscriptions.

The cache is NOT at the posted coordinates

This cache is approximately 1/2 kilometre away from posted co-ordinates.

This Wherigo converts your player into a "Reverse-Cache-Box". This box will continually tell you the distance to the final cache, but not the direction.

Once you have unlocked the code, you can start your search anywhere in the world. All you will need is a Smartphone or GPS device which is capable of playing Wherigo.

The Cartridge from -Waldmeister- is available to download HERE. His "The Reverse Cache" is the original cache.

To play this Wherigo cartridge, it is your task to find the cache only with the information about your distance to the final location. Try to use your Reverse Cache box as few times as possible. All the instructions and information you need to complete this cartridge is contained within it. The cartridge is multilingual.

This cache should remind you of the game played as a child where something was hidden and as you looked for it your parents would shout "Warmer" when you got closer and "Colder" when you got further. You are waiting for the Wherigo to shout "Hot".

At the posted co-ordinates you need to answer the following questions:-

A = Plaque below right hand, first line, number of letters in the 1st word.

B = Plaque below right hand, fifth line, number of letters in the 3rd word.

C = Plaque below right hand, number of letters in the last word on plaque.

D = Plaque below left hand, number of letters on 5th line, minus the number of letters on the 4th line.

E = Plaque below left hand, third line, number of letters in 2nd word.

F = By the foot of 'Lady of Malta' bronze there is the foundry's stamp. Add the number of lines of the inscription to the number of letters in the last word.

Next you will have to type an initiation code into your player; substitute in the numbers from the above questions in to the three codes below and enter them in to your Wherigo player:

75A1B5

37CD09

9E19F1

Take the code with you on your quest, you might need it if there is a problem with your player.

This is optional and not a must to log a found - when you reach the final, you will be given some statistics. It would be nice if you write the details into your log and also post the number of times you have calculated the distance.

You will also get a personal password which you can enter into the Codegenerator if you select "create" instead of "play" at the start of the cartridge. Save this code. Then if you want to, you can build your own reverse cache where ever you want in the world (Just tell -Waldmeister- about your plans!).
