Geocache Description:

06 April 2019, 15:30 - 17:00

Have you ever visited a smart cache and wondered what was going on inside of it? Maybe you'd like to make one, but just don't know where to start? We'll start by discussing what makes a gadget cache "smart" and learn about a few in Central Massachusetts. If you have attempted any (near and far), please be ready to share your stories! Come learn the basics about smart gadget caches and then follow the simple instructions provided to make a few of the circuits yourself. No programming necessary!

Location

Leominster Public Library
30 West Street, Leominster, MA
(Parking entrance is on Pearl Street)

1st floor large conference room, immediately on the right as you come in from the parking lot

What to Bring

You will need to bring your own power supply and USB cable with a Mini-B adapter (pictured right). You can use a portable USB storage battery like you may use for your phone, or even a laptop to supply power. You will not need to actually use a computer during this workshop. There is no guarantee that there will be wall outlets near your table.

Workshop Setup

There will be 8-10 tables, each with their own electronics so you can work in a small group to learn more about Arduino circuits and wire the basics of several types of smart gadget caches. An easy-to-follow set of instructions will be provided to each table. The PDF will also be provided before the event.

No programming necessary - all of the Arduino chips will be pre-programmed for this workshop. Just connect a few wires and then test out what could be part of your next smart gadget cache!

If you would like to keep the materials (Arduino, breadboard, LEDs, etc.) used for this workshop, they will be available for $10. Only 8-10 sets of material we will available.

Food is not permitted in the library.
