Caching Karma A
The published coordinates points to a cinema complex. You may want to have a go at this cache whilst waiting for your film to start.
It is often the wish of a cacher to give something back to the caching community. Hiding more caches is one obvious way!
In typical geocaching style, there is a statistic to track this: the caching karma. This is simply the number of individual finds of my hides, as a proportion of the number of my finds of other people's hides. A karma statistic of 100% points to a quantitative balance of giving and receiving of caching fun!
I left 2018 with a karma statistic of 10%, having 300 cumulative finds of other people's caches, and 30 individual finds of my caches. Over the new year holidays, I wondered to myself how my caching karma statistic will progress in 2019 and beyond.
I have a habit of reporting karma statistic milestones in my individual find logs. These are when they are round percentage numbers. So I would report it if it comes to 17% at the time of the find, but not if it were 17.5%.
Let's now make some simplifying assumptions. I would find one and only one cache every evening. There would be one and only one find of my caches everyday, before I make my daily find.
Then:
- I would be logging a 25% karma statistic on the Ath day of a week (Monday = 1);
- the Bth karma log after 1/1/2019 would report a karma statistic of 64%;
- this 64% log would be made in the Cth year (2019 = first year);
- the 99% karma log would be made on the Dth day of a month;
- the 10th karma log would be made on the Eth day of a week;
- I would be logging the 40% karma log on the Fth month of a year.
Of course, even if I could be disciplined enough to do a find at the end of each day, there is no guarantee that other people would make a find of my caches so regularly. If we relax this assumption though, the maths would be much more complex - so let's leave that to another puzzle cache!
When logging your find, it would be great to hear if you like tracking the caching karma statistic!
The location of the cache is at N51°31.ABC, W0°16.DEF. It could require a little stretch. Please bring tweezers and writing equipment!
