Geocache Description:

If you've reached this destination, you'll be standing on 20th Road. Note how curvy this road is as it cuts through multiple streets. Take a look at the map and you'll see that this street seems so out of place; it looks as if someone just drew a big smile on the grid and called it 20th Road. It is one of the oldest roads in all of Queens that predates Astoria's perfect grid-like set-up. This geocache is in a spot where you can stop for a minute and really see so much history around you.

Within your view is the gated Lawrence Cemetery nearby, the final resting place for the prominent Lawrence family of the area and many Revolutionary War and Civil War heroes. With it's stone gate marking "Founded in 1707" this is one of the oldest cemeteries in Queens. Abraham Riker Lawrence, a NY State Supreme Court Justice and William Beach Lawrence, a lieutenant governor of Rhode Island are both buried here. Another notable individual Sarah Lawrence, the namesake of Sarah Lawrence College can also be found. This little, fairly unknown cemetery is also full of history.

*This is a microcache. Recommended to bring tweezers if you have trouble with small cache logs. Bring a pen. Please place back carefully where you found it wedging neatly. The magnet will hold it in place.
