As part of pre-Earth Day community activities, please join me in partnering with the Kinderhook Runner Club and the Kinderhook Climate Smart Task Force and participate in Kinderhook's second annual "Dash for Trash." The goal is to have fun, and enjoy a stroll, walk or run around our beautiful village and surrounding trails and parks while helping making them clean again. We're gathering on the village green where participants can register as teams or individual "dashers" (in either adult and junior categories) and receive bags and disposable gloves. From the 9:00 am start you'll have one hour to collect as much litter as possible and bring it back for weighing. At 10 am prizes will be awarded in each category for the most trash collected.
Our friendly muggle organizers are very keen for the extra helping hands, and a chance to learn more about geocaching. Geocachers are encouraged to linger after the end of the dash to swap trackables and geocaching stories, maybe enroll a new cacher or two? I am also planning on hiding a few caches in or near the village in the days leading up to the event, so you'll have a few fresh smileys to find after the dash.
Please note the terrain rating is for the paved village streets & sidewalks. Unpaved trails, as well as the steep slopes of the woods behind Mills Park, will yield more trash but be more challenging to navigate. There is ample street parking around the village green and along the streets beyond, and you can park at the post office but not in the center spaces.
