GeoTour Stop #15: St. Paul's Lutheran Church
St. Paul’s Lutheran is the oldest congregation in Norfolk, founded by pioneers
from Ixonia, Wisconsin. Its first church was a log cabin, with the Reverend John
Heckendorf as the first minister. He was also the teacher of the first school in
Madison County, which was established in 1867. The congregation built a wood
frame church in 1878 and the present structure was built in 1907. Today, St.
Paul’s Lutheran Church rests at 1100 Georgia Avenue, and is home to a K-8
elementary school.
The posted coordinates will bring you to a historical marker at the church. In
