GeoTour Stop #24: Norfolk Livestock Sales Company
After WWI was over, men were coming home and farmers needed a place to sell livestock. The Norfolk Livestock Sales Company opened in 1919 to do just that. At one time, in terms of livestock sold, it was the largest auction market in the world! The auction house had many different owners but thrived and at times running over 750,000 head of livestock through the ring in just one year! Since announcing the suspension of sales in 2015, the once booming 82 acre facility is now nothing more than a skeleton of what was once one of the highest ranked auction houses in the nation.
