Geocache Description:

Ponte di Sorana è il punto in cui confluiscono i due rami della Pescia Maggiore, e cioè quella di Pontito e quella di Calamecca.
E’ un borgo famoso per le ferriere e le cartiere, ma in passato ha avuto anche una notevole importanza come stazione di sosta. Infatti allora non c’erano strade che portavano alle castella, ma soltanto impervie mulattiere, percorribili a piedi o a dorso di muli e cavalli.
Le persone provenienti dalle castella, una volta giunte a Ponte di Sorana, salivano sui veicoli che qui vi facevano sosta e così potevano raggiungere Pescia, Lucca e Firenze.

At Ponte di Sorana the two branches of Pescia Maggiore river flow into one another.
This village is famous for ironworks and paper factories, but in the past times it was also important as a staging post. At that times there were not any roads that led to the Castella, but only ardous mule tracks, accessible on foot or with mules and horses.
People coming from the Castella, once arrived in Ponte di Sorana, could get on the vehicles stopped here and thus reach Pescia, Lucca and Florence.
