Geocache Description:

This cache sits at the site of a former one-room schoolhouse.  The bell you see was the original school bell.  After the school was closed, the Fire Company acquired the building and built a one door garage on the right side as viewed from the street. In the event of a power outage, when the siren wouldn't activate, the bell would be used to alert firefighters in town of an alarm.  This building stood for years and was the meeting point for the miners families during the Quecreek Mine Rescue in July of 2002 when all nine miners were rescued from the mine about a mile away.  You can Google search the rescue if you dont recall those events.

Please take the time to look at the monument while you are here.  If you watch the movie titled "The Pennsylavania Miners Story" you will see the inside of the old fire station.  In 2004, the building that you currently see was occupied and the old one torn down.  The stone foundation of the original building is what makes up the sign that you see at this location.

The cache is a small plastic lock box hidden near the coordinates.  If you see someone at the fire station, please stop in for a tour or just to say 'Hi'! BEWARE of muggles in the area and also be on the lookout (BOLO) for bees guarding the cache. I've been trying my best to keep them away.
