Geocache Description:

Sorana è famosa per i suoi fagioli!
Il fagiolo di Sorana IGP viene coltivato lungo il fiume Pescia in un aerale di appena 600 ettari, da Ponte di Sorana a Ponte di Castelvecchio.
Ma perché solo qui? Perché c’è un microclima particolarmente adatto, e poi perché c’è il ghiareto, ossia il greto del fiume: l’acqua filtra bene e il fagiolo che ha bisogno di umidità, ma non di ristagni cresce altrettanto bene.
Il fagiolo di Sorana è senza buccia e quindi facilmente digeribile.
La produzione annua è molto limitata, 60-80 quintali, e per questo il suo prezzo è piuttosto alto: 22 €/kg, mentre il fagiolo normale costa 3-4 €/kg.
Si dice che il grande musicista Gioacchino Rossini ben volentieri si faceva pagare la correzione di alcune partiture con “buoni fagioli di Sorana”.
Altri celebri estimatori di questo fagiolo furono: Giuseppe Verdi, Giacomo Puccini, Edmondo De Amicis (che in “Cronache dall’Oriente” riferì di averli visti in vendita al mercato di Costantinopoli), e il giornalista Indro Montanelli, che ne lodò le caratteristiche e la bontà sulle colonne de Il Giornale.

La cache è situata in prossimità di un campo di fagioli.

Sorana is famous for its beans!
These beans are cultivated in a small area of just 600 hectares that goes from Ponte di Sorana to Ponte di Castelvecchio.
Why only here? Because there is a particularly suitable microclimate, and then because of the ghiareto (the river bed): the water filters in a good way and the beans that need humidity but not stagnation, grow in a good way as well.
Sorana’s beans are peelless and therefore they are easy to digest.
Their annual production is limited, 60 to 80 quintals, and that’s why their price is high: 22 €/kg, while the common beans’ price is 3-4 €/kg.
The great musician Gioacchino Rossini loved su much Sorana’s beans that wanted to be paid with them instead of money.
Also the great musicians Verdi and Puccini knew and loved Sorana’s beans!
