Geocache Description:

Sorana è un'antica castella che alcuni ritengono addirittura di origine romana. Si narra infatti che i superstiti dell'esercito di Catilina, dopo la sconfitta, si rifugiarono proprio tra questi monti e fondarono alcuni castelli, tra cui appunto Sorana.
L’antica rocca, di cui oggi rimangono soltanto alcuni resti, era alta e con torri ed era detta sovrana per via della sua posizione dominante sulla vallata. Forse da qui l’origine del nome.
Poco prima di arrivare alla piazza della Chiesa di SS. Pietro e Paolo goditi dal punto panoramico la vista sovrana sulla valle.

Sorana is an ancient castella that may have a Roman origin. It is told that the survivors of Catilina’s army, after their defeat, settled down on these mountains, and built some castles, including Sorana.
The ancient fortress (today you can see just a few remains) was high and with towers, and was called sovereign because of its dominant position on the valley. Perhaps this is the origin of the name.
Just before arriving to the Church of SS. Peter and Paul, enjoy the sovereign view on the valley from the panoramic point.
